It's me again!

Are you reading, listening, watching? Where do you get your books?
If you're like me, you're doing all three, and getting your books from many sources.

I have a subscription to Audible and Kindle Unlimited, and I have memberships in two libraries. I am always disappointed when I pay a lot for a book or audiobook I end up disliking, so I "sample" Amazon books a lot. I used to buy Kindle books or paperbacks, but because of my eye problem, these days I do more listening than reading.

I rely on my friends, my bookclubs, and my family for recommendations. Recently my in-person bookclub read The Thursday Murder Club, then just this month we were able to watch the televised version. We agreed the TV version improved on the book, not just because of the great acting and production, but because the TV adaptation excluded unnecessary and confusing parts. (We thought the book was over-complicated). We're eagerly waiting for the TV episode 2!

I'm getting nervous.
In a few days I'm going to moderate the discussion of one of my books for my Zoom bookclub. The book is Miss Slappy Gets an Admirer, and though it's one of my favorites, I'm a bit nervous about the event. I used to be a tireless talker but not anymore. I have a recurring nightmare where I come to a podium on a stage and can't remember what I am supposed to say!

Wish me luck!
AN AWARD FOR MISS SLAPPY!
It's always nice when one of your works receives an award. In this case it's the "Earphones Award" for the audiobook version of Miss Slappy Gets an Admirer, performed by Boyd Barrett. Here's the text of the award:

"Boyd Barrett flawlessly brings to life the eccentric but lovable residents of a small town in Georgia. Listeners meet independent Sarah Lapis Harris--"Slappy"--who buys her family's home at auction, angering her seven brothers. As she settles in, she's continually interrupted by her junk-collecting, sermonizing, flirty neighbor, Fin--who is rendered to perfection. The town is divided over a landfill proposal, with Barrett's delivery adding to the residents' hilarious debates and arguments. When Slappy's injured brother and family invade her space, listeners empathize with her mixed emotions. Barrett particularly dazzles as he depicts an overnight fishing trip with Slappy and her kids and when a cranky lady bosses Slappy to her limit. Audio enriches the Southern accents and personalities in this worthwhile listen. S.G.B. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award"

About this book:
"In Southeast Asia and China, silence often speaks louder than words.
Behind closed doors, families guard their pain. Women carry burdens they cannot confess. Men bury regrets in shadows, in work, in unfinished conversations.
Yet love, fragile, fleeting, survives in stolen glances, in the quiet of shared rooms, and in the things we fail to hold on to.
Rain and Sun is a haunting confessional novel of forbidden longing and devastating loss. For readers who cherish Murakami’s melancholy, Kawaguchi’s tenderness, or literary fiction rooted in Asia, this story will leave a lasting echo."
A new book by Amy Crooks: Where the Compass Points
From the author:
"My books are both historical and historical fiction. All of my stories come from the lives of my ancestors, so they are both personal and fascinating. I have been researching my ancestors for 20 years, discovering their amazing stories, and now it's time to share those stories with the world."
